Crack Green Beans are an irresistible side dish made with fresh green beans, crispy bacon, and a sweet and savory glaze that caramelizes to perfection in the oven.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 pounds fresh green beans, washed and trimmed

8 slices of bacon, cut into small pieces

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)

2 tablespoons melted butter

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.

2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook bacon pieces until crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Leave 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the skillet.

3. Add melted butter, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper to the skillet. Whisk over low heat until smooth and sugar is dissolved.

4. Place green beans in the prepared baking dish. Pour glaze over the green beans and toss until evenly coated.

5. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, until green beans are tender-crisp and sauce is bubbly. Sprinkle crispy bacon over top before serving.

Notes

Use fresh green beans for best texture, but thawed frozen beans can be substituted if patted dry. Add red pepper flakes to the glaze for a spicy kick or toasted almonds for extra crunch. Wait to add bacon until just before serving to keep it crisp.
