A vibrant summer margarita made with fresh strawberries, aromatic basil, smooth blanco tequila, and freshly squeezed lime juice for a perfectly balanced sweet, tart, and herbaceous cocktail.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cocktail 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 ounces blanco tequila (100% agave)

1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

3/4 ounce orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)

3/4 ounce agave nectar or simple syrup

34 fresh ripe strawberries, hulled and sliced

45 fresh basil leaves

Ice cubes

Coarse salt or sugar, for rim

Lime wedge, for rimming glass

Fresh strawberry, basil sprig, or lime wheel, for garnish

Instructions

1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a margarita glass and dip it into coarse salt or sugar. Fill the glass with fresh ice and set aside.

2. In a cocktail shaker, add the sliced strawberries and basil leaves. Gently muddle until the strawberries release their juices and the basil becomes fragrant.

3. Pour in the tequila, fresh lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave nectar or simple syrup.

4. Fill the shaker three-quarters full with ice.

5. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds until well chilled.

6. Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over fresh ice to ensure a smooth texture.

7. Garnish with a fresh strawberry, basil sprig, or lime wheel and serve immediately.

Notes

Use ripe, in-season strawberries for the best natural sweetness and color.

Gently muddle basil to avoid bitterness.

Adjust sweetener to taste before shaking.

For a spicy twist, muddle a thin slice of jalapeño with the fruit and basil.

To make it non-alcoholic, omit tequila and orange liqueur and top with sparkling water.
