Ingredients
1 to 2-inch piece of fresh ginger root
4 cups filtered water
Optional: lemon or lime slices
Optional: 1 tsp raw honey or maple syrup
Optional: 1 cinnamon stick, whole cloves, or fresh mint leaves
Instructions
1. Wash the fresh ginger root thoroughly under cool running water.
2. Peel the ginger if desired, especially if the skin is thick or tough.
3. Slice or grate the ginger finely for stronger flavor.
4. Place the ginger in a small saucepan and pour in the 4 cups of water.
5. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
6. Reduce heat and let the mixture simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, or up to 20 for a stronger brew.
7. Remove from heat and strain the liquid through a fine-mesh strainer into a mug or heatproof container.
8. Serve warm or let cool and enjoy chilled.
9. Add lemon juice, honey, or other flavorings if desired before drinking.
Notes
Use fresh ginger root for best results—look for pieces that are firm, smooth, and free from mold.
Filtered water is recommended for a cleaner taste.
Add flavor and health benefits with optional ingredients like cinnamon, mint, or citrus.
Store leftover ginger water in a glass container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Drink ginger water in the morning, before meals, or in the evening as a calming beverage.
Ginger powder may be used as a substitute: 1/4 to 1/2 tsp per 1-inch piece of fresh ginger.
